Crabbing is a story about young boys learning from their grandfather about the coastal tradition of catching crabs during an eventful day on a saltwater creek. Tilda Balsley's realistic yet poetic depictions coupled with Monica Wyrick's watercolor illustrations provide a glimpse into the diversity of life along the backwaters of the lowcountry. Crabbing is an intriguing "how-to" for children and evokes nostalgic reminders for readers who have enjoyed the challenge of catching blue crabs. Read More

A couple of years in Japan, a few more in Turkey and high school years in Korea were part of my adventurous childhood as an “army brat.” But, along with my husband, a cat, several dogs, and two sons, I have spent most of my adult life in Reidsville, NC.

I found the change that I craved in a variety of careers--all involving writing in one way or another.

When I began teaching elementary school reading, the  abundance of fabulous picture books grabbed my attention and wouldn’t let go until I tried it myself. More than a dozen books later, I’m still writing (and reading) picture books.

I have a Master in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
